Well...maybe a little smaller than expected.
In 2008 we bought a condo pre-construction. It was a big step, an investment for us. I never planned on living in it. The downtown location in the middle of all the action was a perfect pick as a vacation rental choice...or so we thought.
It's a little like buying something unseen, online or from a catalogue.
You know the location. You have seen the perfectly lit display suite that has been carefully constructed in a sales office. And you know the price, size and sometimes you have a choice of colours and or finishes.
What you don't know is just how small 580 square feet is until you step into it. What you also can't do is look out the window. What can you imagine the view to be in a sales office?
I can remember first stepping into our newly purchased unit and thinking oh no, what have I just done. This is so small. But not everyone see's it that way. At least not me today, but that took some time.
Buying unseen is not new.
During the 90's and into the 00's thousands of Chinese immigrants coming to Canada bought property in the Vancouver area without ever leaving China. Although not something that would be recommended, it still happens with remarkable frequency.
Today our household has gone from 4 adults +1 (cat) to 2 adults +1. Our lifestyle and LIVINGstyle has changed dramatically. Yes, we have moved into our smaller than expected space and it has taken adjustments that I never imagined having to make. If you want to take the contents of a 2000 square foot house and fit it into a space less than 600, what form of trickery would you use? More on that later, but it may be more practical then you would think.
